Here at Bickford, we aim to keep residents active with specially curated on-site activities that stimulate both mental and physical wellbeing. We employ a full-time activities director to assemble a diverse cycle of events and recreation options. Various exercise programs are offered, such as stretching classes and chair yoga – a type of yoga that is modified to a seated position for those with physical limitations. We also love to have fun at Bickford and keep things exciting, hosting regular events like holiday and birthday parties, BBQs, picnics, karaoke nights, musical entertainment, trivia nights, and even “senior proms.” For those who prefer more quiet pursuits, there are plenty of options as well. Residents can join our gardening club or participate in local community service programs such as intergenerational events. We schedule educational lectures covering a wide range of academic topics, along with art classes and cooking classes, and we also offer pet therapy as a positive and stimulating activity. Off-site adventures and excursions are also quite popular among our more independent residents, as the city of Columbus has a never ending variety of fun places to go, including coffee shops, retail stores, restaurants, bookstores, libraries, and much more.

Residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia are well-directed and receive support in living a healthy lifestyle. We offer adjunct therapies, such as reminiscence therapy, which stimulates sensory faculties to encourage memory recall. • Good community, but communication could be improved

The meals there are very good, however the communication is horrible that needs to be improved. Our loved one has been there for a couple of months and it seems like we are constantly having to reach out for updated. It usually takes multiple phone calls before we get a hold of someone or get a call back. It seems like the people who are in charge are always unavailable

  • Nursing Home Care in a Bed and Breakfast Feel

My experience has been during the pandemic. The community has found a way to still have activities to engage the residents. It is a smaller, home like atmosphere. They have caring staff, and a passionate Activities Director. There is a group of staff that is willing to step up and do what the residents need.

  • Bickford on the Scioto is the best for Memory Care!!

My husband arrived at Bickford in August last year following the transition from Sunrise. The "old guard" did not want to make the adjustment and thwarted the change in caring style for the residents. The "old guard" basically abandoned the residents and left to go to another Sunrise facility. The "new guard" is wonderful, caring, fun, attentive and life is so much better as the transition to the "Bickford way" is finally taking hold. The "old guard" continue to make contact with the residents trying to get them to leave Bickford, pitiful and emotionally abusive, seems like an ethical breach. I am glad we stuck it out and my husband is living the good life on the Memory Care floor. Thank you to the Bickford staff, you are wonderful!!
