for a local A Place for Mom advisor

Located in Scottsdale, Arizona just outside of Phoenix, A Place in the Sun is a small, close-knit senior living community with plenty to offer. Compared to larger assisted living communities, our intimate size allows us to have a higher staff-to-resident ratio and bond closely with everyone who calls A Place in the Sun home. We value all of our residents as individuals and at times feel much more like a large family than an impersonal apartment complex. If you're tired of long, cold winters and dreary weather maybe it's time you've found A Place in the Sun!

Our Community

A Place in the Sun is situated in a quiet, residential neighborhood away from all the hustle and bustle of the big city. You'll immediately notice the secluded setting and cozy feel of our community. Our outdoor grounds are designed with accessibility in mind, allowing residents to safely congregate with each other and maneuver throughout our property. Indoor areas are a nice, quiet place to relax either alone or in the company of your neighbors. Resident parking is available and our community is located near public transportation options. A Place in the Sun is a secured community, ensuring the protection and safety of all of our residents and allowing us to maintain supervision of vulnerable individuals.

Living Arrangements

Our living quarters are designed to be comfortable and accessible - as a single-story building, the property is easy to traverse with wheelchairs and by those with limited mobility. Units are available with amenities such as wheelchair-accessible showers, or private baths if desired. We allow cats and dogs in our private units, so your pets can come along, too!

Activities

You'll be pleased to know that there's never a dull moment at A Place in the Sun! We offer our residents plenty of opportunities to participate in specially-curated activities intended to stimulate both mental and physical well-being. We also make sure to schedule day trips throughout town for a refreshing change of scenery.

Dining

Meals are provided to our residents throughout the day, and include specified options such as vegetarian fares.

Personal Services

Residents at A Place in the Sun have access to a convenient transportation service for when trips to town are in order. Our community offers beauty treatments on-site however, so you can pamper yourself without ever having to leave!

Medical Care

A major benefit of living in a supervised community is access to care services at all times. Our staff is awake and present 24 hours a day to respond to any needs that you or your loved one may have. Staff members are trained to assist with medication administration, insulin monitoring, transferring positions, providing wound care, and managing feeding tubes and catheters. Registered nurses are on hand and we recruit visiting professionals to provide care with regularity. This includes an on-call doctor to handle medication adjustments, provide consultation, and assess any urgent medical needs. We also receive visits from a podiatrist as well as speech and occupational therapists to ensure our residents are healthy, fit, and mobile, and able to maintain the skills they need for daily living. A Place in the Sun is capable of caring for individuals with behavioral issues - we employ staff members trained in de-escalating behavioral episodes and responding appropriately to any related occurrences. Our community provides hospice care and also offers respite care - a short-term stay at a senior living community - perfect for those recovering from a hospital visit, the interim during which a caregiver takes an extended vacation, or simply to experience a senior living trial period.

The Surrounding Neighborhood

A Place in the Sun is quite aptly named - the community is located in a residential neighborhood in Scottsdale, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix which receives approximately 300 days of sun per year. Even during winter nights the coldest temperatures rarely drop below 50 degrees, making the area an ideal place for outdoor recreation and for fans of warm, sunny weather. The region has plenty of options for golfing or simply taking a stroll through a park. The surrounding wilderness is some of the most beautiful in the state and includes many prime examples of majestic desert scenery. For a metropolitan change of pace, take a short trip into Phoenix and spend your day at the many museums, restaurants, casinos, and shopping centers the city has to offer. Rest assured that life near a major city means convenient access to countless highly-rated options for medical care. Sky Harbor International Airport is just a short distance away as well, making it quite easy to travel or arrange visits with family and friends.

  • Our experience with A Place in the Sun

We chose A Place in the Sun because of the value for the money. The room sizes here are on the smaller. They were really good with communication, my grandma was allowed to see him as well. The facility did not provide much in general when it came to activities, it was mostly just a lot of walks outside. Everyone here is very friendly and I would recommend them to others looking for this type of care.

  • Very nice place. Residents looked happy and well cared for. [name removed] answered all our questions. This type of location is not quite what dad needs yet. He is much more independent, but will keep this in mind when the situation changes.

  • The gentleman who ran the place pleasant enough. There was an odor and the areas were very poorly lit. The kitchen and bathrooms were clean. The bedroom he showed us was ok. The backyard was overgrown and not maintained. The house in general a little old and not kept up with fresh paint. Needed new furniture.
