Built in 2011 and renovated in 2015, our home sits back from the street, creating space for our well-manicured lawn and picturesque landscaping, with varieties of shrubs and groundcover. Living Options and Amenities

We offer numerous options for living spaces to best suit your comfort and preferences. Our ground floor units provide the easiest accessibility for those with limited mobility. Choose between a private or shared room, each with different bathroom options, such as wheelchair accessible showers and full-size bathtubs for a soothing soak. Free wi-fi and cable TV is provided to all of our residents. For the safety of anyone prone to roaming, our community is equipped with a safe and secured perimeter. Our home is air-conditioned, and we make sure to keep temperatures steady for the well-being of our residents. Free on-site parking is available for guests and residents who drive, and for those who don’t, we offer a reasonably-priced transportation service.

At Abby’s Place, there’s no need to worry about cooking your own food! Sit back and relax while we prepare home-cooked meals in our well-equipped kitchen. We understand that each of our residents has unique preferences and needs when it comes to sustaining a healthy diet. Our nutritional and dietary counseling ensures that everyone can savor meals prepared with their health and well-being in mind. We also offer specialized dining programs for residents to enjoy cuisine prepared for ease of eating. Share a meal around our communal dining table in the company of your friends, or feel free to dine in the comfort and privacy of your own room.

On-Site Activities

Our staff curates on-site activities specifically tailored to suit seniors with Alzheimer’s or dementia, so everyone can be included and take part in the fun! Residents enjoy a variety of interesting options to fill each day, while stimulating their mental and physical health. You’ll often find us playing games together, doing crafts, bobbing our heads to music, and much more. We have a dedicated fitness room and are ready to assist with your exercise routine. Our community recruits a yoga instructor to teach a class designed to align your body and mind, while increasing mobility and strength. At Abby’s Place we believe life brings many reasons to celebrate, so we never shy away from parties! We’re eager to throw birthday and holiday parties, and we also host regular dances, BBQs, and picnics. We strive to provide plenty of opportunities for our residents to stay active and engaged, and live a fulfilling life.

Outdoor Common Areas

Our outside spaces are open to all residents and designed for safety and flow of movement. We have a charming enclosed backyard facing a thick wooded area, where our residents can relish some time in the Texas sun and listen to the soundscape of the forest. Our outside patio garden is a great place to relax or show off your green thumb. Take a stroll on one of our walking paths, while enjoying the serenity of our safe residence and neighborhood. To ensure the safety of everyone, we make sure the community is secured.

Indoor Common Areas

The indoor common areas give you space to unwind, play games, and catch up with friends outside of your room. Most of our floors are hardwood or tile, allowing ease of movement for wheelchairs and walkers. Our TV lounge is decorated with homey touches and is full of plump leather chairs and sofas, making the space inviting and comfortable for cheering on your favorite team or catching a classic movie. The lounge opens conveniently to the kitchen and dining room, so you can catch the enticing cooking smells and maneuver easily up to the table and eat!

Personal Services

Whenever the need arises, our attentive and friendly staff is available to support our residents in the activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene and grooming, medication and toileting assistance, and transferring between positions. We offer laundry and dry cleaning services to all our residents, along with housekeeping to maintain a clean and comfortable home. For our spiritual residents, we’re situated near an array of churches across numerous denominations.

Local Area

The suburban location of Abby’s Place in Grand Prairie creates a serene setting to call home, just outside of Dallas and Fort Worth. We are situated a short drive from the local branch of the award-winning Baylor Scott and White hospital system. The area is also home to numerous parks, offering an escape into calming, natural surroundings. Loyd Park at Joe Pool Lake has many outdoor recreation options, and plenty of lakeside locales to picnic with visiting friends or loved ones. Check out Fish Creek Linear Park for wide, paved walking paths next to a trickling stream. Several area golf courses offer scenic vistas of Texas Hill Country right from the fairway. If shopping is more your style, spend a day bargain hunting at Traders Village. “The Famous Texas Flea Market” is a great choice for a family visit, featuring an open-air market with tons of unique shops and amusement rides for kids. Lake Prairie Towne Crossing is only three miles away and offers a variety of stores, services, and restaurants in one convenient location. Medical Care Services

Licensed healthcare practitioners are present at Abby’s Place throughout the day, available to assist residents whenever the need arises. We have a doctor on-call to handle adjustments in medication, provide consultation, and respond to any urgent medical needs. Our community staff can provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as grooming and eating, as well as transferring positions, injection administration, wound care, and incontinence care. We are properly equipped and to handle catheter care and tube feeding, including IV insertion and tube management. At our community we recruit first-class visiting specialists, such as podiatrists, dentists, and physical therapists, to aid the maintenance, recovery, and improvement of skills needed for daily living, and to ensure our residents are healthy, fit, and mobile. We also offer adjunct therapies, such as light therapy, which can provide a positive influence on dementia, seasonal depression, and sleep disorders. Abby’s Place provides on-site hospice care as needed, along with respite care, which is a great option for those recovering from a hospital visit, the interim during which a caregiver takes an extended vacation, or simply to experience a senior living trial period. We also have services for residents who might struggle with disorientation and lack-of-awareness issues – for those prone to wandering as a means of coping with anxiety, we maintain a secure perimeter, and our staff members are trained to safely redirect residents and calmly respond to any behavioral episodes that arise. At Abby’s Place, we strive to ensure that everyone receives the support they need to live a healthy lifestyle at any stage of their aging journey.

Care Types Offered

Abby’s Place is licensed in the state of Texas as a Type B Assisted Living Facility which provides memory care services. These terms are defined as follows:

Assisted Living Facility

A facility that provides personal care services and administration of medication to 4 or more residents. Assisted living facilities can accept residents with dementia and/or Alzheimer’s. There are 3 types of assisted living facilities:

• Type A: A facility that may provide room and board to residents who are physically and mentally capable of evacuating the facility unassisted.
• Type B: A facility that may provide room and board to residents who need assistance evacuating, are incapable of following directions under emergency conditions, require staff attendance during nighttime sleeping hours, and require assistance transferring to and from a wheelchair.
• Type C (Adult Foster Care): 4-bed facilities that meet the minimum standards and rules for enrollment in the Department of Aging and Disability Services’ Adult Foster Care home program. The facility provides supervision and personal care services to residents.

Memory Care

Memory care communities — sometimes called Alzheimer’s care or dementia care — provide specialized care for seniors who have Alzheimer’s, dementia, or other forms of memory loss. These communities offer personalized cognitive rehabilitation programs alongside assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs). Memory care usually includes 24-hour supervision and unique design elements, like outdoor gardens and color-coded walls, to help ease anxiety, agitation, and other symptoms of dementia.
