  • My mother passed from what I believe to be neglect and false advertising within two weeks of entering this facility.

Do your research. My mother died within two weeks of entering this facility. I believe that neglect, false and misleading advertising, and inexperienced staff, all contributed to her demise. A number of times within those two weeks, we requested some hygiene care that they never carried out. For example, we asked at least three or four times that they groom her hair and nails, and a family member who lives in the area observed that those things were not done in the time my mother was at Brookdale. Also, the family wasn't contacted about her death. It was just by a fluke that I found out. I was trying to call and speak with my mother, but she wasn't answering the phone. So I ended up speaking with one of their techs (I'm not sure of the qualifications of the individual), who told me my mother was non-responsive. I asked that they wake her up, because it was afternoon and I figured she was napping. And the response I got was, "She's not responding." So I hung up with them, figured they didn't know what they were doing, and called for the manager on duty, who happened to be at home. The next thing I knew, the EMTs had responded. Brookdale let me know they had called 911. But then they didn't tell me anything after the fact. There was no one I felt was qualified to give me information. So I was left to find out who the EMTs were, what they found out, and an overall status. And I got absolutely no help from Brookdale on any level. When I was searching for a place before moving my mother in, this facility advertised that they had a doctor on staff, and that they had nurses on staff at all times. And there was no such thing. The doctors they had were not dedicated to the facility. They were pay as you go doctors. And to get a certificate of death and cause of death from a contract doctor that didn't know anything about my loved one was not appropriate. So I very quickly went to her regular physician. Understand that there was nothing physically wrong with my mother. She had a pace maker and took some blood pressure medicine. For someone of that age, that's pretty good. She had no overall health concerns. Her cardiologist signed the death certificate as natural causes. Brookdale also promised a couple of times that they were going to hook up a Facetime visit, which they never did. I believe that isolation and lack of activities were contributing factors to her death, and I would roll that up under neglect. I wouldn't expect regular protocol during a pandemic - I would expect it to be modified, especially with vulnerable seniors. But they weren't doing anything to prevent isolation. They did not live up to their promises of keeping her active like they said they would. They also did not keep their promises in regards to her care, including hygiene. They certainly looked like a value buy for what they advertised they provided. But it turns out what they advertised is not what they provided. And to top it all off, the only communication I've had from them after my mother's death was a final bill.

  • Highly Recommend

The staff are super attentive and caring. I absolutely will recommend Reynolda to any of my friends who have a parent in need of their services. They have everything my mother needs and their food is to die for. [name removed] brought me out a sample to try and it was delicious.

  • There are better options...

There are some staff members that are very good but some are completely unresponsive and poorly trained. The food is horrendous. A meal may consist of a runny plain egg salad sandwich and a couple of cookies. The residents are offered very little in the way of physical or mental activity. The mission of the staff is to charge for as much as possible for every little additional task. We are often charged in error for services such as dressing and showers that were not rendered. Buyer Beware!
