  • Our families experience

We were highly impressed with this community when we came to tour it, and we do know they are doing an excellent job with the activities. However we do know they are understaffed so the nursing isn't up to par or where we want it to be. There may be a reason for this but the memory care side does not get as good as food that we see on the assisted living side.

  • Our experience at Commonwealth

I think if you have someone who is truly assisted living capable, it would be okay. If you have someone who has extensive needs, there's not enough care provided. And that's not their fault - they're just not set up for that. On top of that, it's been very difficult not being able to go in and see our loved one. From what we can see, the common spaces are clean, and the individual rooms a little less so. That could be due to Covid, and/or an expectation that the resident to be able to do some level of cleaning. Some of the care staff do a great job and watch carefully, but others do not. Our loved one tells us she loves most of the people who interact with her, that they're very gentle and sweet. One or two she has described as rough/harsh, which is hard for her. She's had a couple of hospitalizations in a few months time, which is concerning to us. There was a nurse who thought our loved one was crying wolf when she couldn't breathe, which was also concerning. Recently there has been a leadership change, and we really do like the new director a lot. He seems to really care about people and is very friendly. So I believe that things will continue to improve with him here. The cost is a bit high, but it's reasonable compared to other facilities, and it really is a nice facility. They have lots of activities, there's a hydroponic garden the residents can participate in, and there are lots of porches for them to sit outside.
