The Groves at Merrill Gardens is an assisted living center that provides directed care services. In the state of Arizona, these terms are defined as follows:

Assisted Living Center

A health care institution other than a hospital or a nursing care institution which provides resident rooms or residential units, supervisory care services, personal care service, directed care services or health-related services on a continuing basis for eleven or more persons who do not need inpatient nursing care.

Directed Care Services

Programs and services, including personal care services, provided to persons who are incapable of recognizing danger, summoning assistance, expressing need, or making basic care decisions.
