for a local A Place for Mom advisor

The Amsterdam at Harborside is the first and only true life care community in Nassau County. Opened in September 2010, we’re located on the North Shore of Long Island, adjacent to the Harbor Links Golf Course and Bar Beach and a 38-minute train ride to NYC. Our stately building offers a homey atmosphere that provides the comfort of dependable staff and nostalgic warmth.

Our community offers gracious, vibrant independent residential living in a wide variety of elegant, well-appointed apartment homes — ranging from simple living to spacious and unique penthouses. An array of resort-style services and amenities provide for a maintenance-free lifestyle that frees time to pursue interests and hobbies.

Community Amenities and Services

Our community is created for residents to thrive — not just live. Residents may luxuriate in our secured, lively common areas, with or without assistance from staff. Easily accessible public transportation enables residents to venture about town and enjoy the local attractions. We provide three, nutritious meals daily, as well as snacks and beverages by requests.

Residents at The Amsterdam who medically and financially qualify may receive the life care benefit, which includes unlimited long-term care services at our on-site Tuttle Center. Amsterdam at Harborside wants to support the comfort and well-being of every resident and makes every effort to see that residents have a wholesome and healthy experience with us.

Living Arrangements

We currently offer private, studio, one-, and two-bedroom units for residents to make their own. Semi-private units are available for residents who may like to have a roommate. Let us know how we can help to welcome you home to The Amsterdam today!

  • My Opinion of The Amsterdam during the pandemic

The community has been COVID free. It gets more expensive each year due to the raise of rent. You have to give a big down payment which the community keeps. If you have to move out then the community would refund your payment. If you can afford this community compared to other communities this is the place to be. The maintenance is about half of the other communities. I would recommend the community to others.

  • My mind is at ease with my parents being at The Amsterdam

During COVID the staff has done a phenomenal job, keeping everyone healthy and engaged. Our loved one's are in Independent living, so they don't really need the care services that are provided, however the staff has done a great job with communication and keeping everyone safe. The activities are a little less due to COVID, but before they have a bunch of activities for the residents to participate in. The food at this community is very good, they have a huge variety to choose from. Very healthy options. Our loved ones have a beautiful apartment, it is very nice.

  • BEWARE

BEWARE My mother began in independent living and shortly thereafter went down to Enriched Housing on the 2nd floor. I came to learn that the head of the unit, [name removed] with the backing of the administration, pushes residents out of the unit because there are not enough rooms for those coming in from independent living. [Name removed], et al, forces the residents to the memory unit or the nursing home. Some families took their resident out of the Amsterdam, some acquiesced and I got a lawyer who successfully kept her in the unit. At that point, her room was rarely cleaned. [Name removed] would not allow the staff to talk to me or they would be reprimanded, or worse. They had my mother examined by their own doctor and when he agreed with me that the Enriched unit was appropriate, [name removed] and a social worker tried, unsuccessfully, to have him retract his assessment. Also, the food is poor: sugary drinks land low quality desserts.
