Assisted Living Facility

A facility that provides personal care services and administration of medication to 4 or more residents. Assisted living facilities can accept residents with dementia and/or Alzheimer’s. There are 3 types of assisted living facilities:

Type A:: A facility that may provide room and board to residents who are physically and mentally capable of evacuating the facility unassisted.
Type B:: A facility that may provide room and board to residents who need assistance evacuating, are incapable of following directions under emergency conditions, require staff attendance during nighttime sleeping hours, and require assistance transferring to and from a wheelchair.
Type C (Adult Foster Care):: Four-bed facilities that meet the minimum standards and rules for enrollment in the Department of Aging and Disability Services’ Adult Foster Care home program. The facility provides supervision and personal care services to residents.

We toured both of [name removed] personal care homes. [Name removed] is impressive with her full command of her caregivers, clients, construction/build out process and building codes for her homes and elder care legislation. She is amazing! Strong willed and candid--refreshing--but I definitely wouldn't want to get on her bad side for any reason. I appreciated the way she figures her monthly charges by evaluating my dad's condition and maintaining that same rate during his entire residency instead of raising fees as needs change.

All of the residents seem to be happy and very well fed. They all feel like Estia Care is their home. [Removed] is very good about explaining everything, and the ladies who work for her are very sweet and caring. I am extremely impressed with the care my mother has been receiving since I moved her in.

I wanted to find a small Alzheimer's facility more like a home for my mother. Estia Care fit my criteria. It is in a lovely, very clean home with 9 residents. All of the residents seem to be happy and very well fed. They all feel like Estia Care is their home. The owner,[Removed] is very strict and makes sure that her people are taking good care of the residents. You can tell she really cares about them. [Removed] is very good about explaining everything, and the ladies who work for her are very sweet and caring. Watch Out for your Money!

I am rating this home as poor because of questionable business practices performed by [removed], the owner/administrator. [removed] took a $1,000 check from me on Sat., Feb 11, 2017 as deposit on a bed for my Mother in a semi-private room to be available on March 1, 2017. By Wednesday, the 15th, I had reason to decide Not to put my Mother at Estia Care, and requested that all or even a portion of the 'non-refundable Community Fee' be returned. [removed] refused to refund the money, even though it had been only 4 days, and she had repeatedly told me that she had a waiting list of 6, and that the phone rings constantly with people wishing to come to "her homes." She still had the rest of the month to fill that bed, but she will just collect another deposit for it, and keep my Mother's money, too. I had never even seen a Lease Agreement, much less signed one...yet, the one and only document I did sign was for the deposit and is entitled, ADDENDUM to Estia Care Lease Agreement. Still, she will not return any of the $1,000. Also, the rent was to be $4,500 for a semi-private bed, a full $1,000 per month more than advertised here for a semi-private. I will continue to advise everyone who is searching for a personal care home for a loved one to NOT choose Estia Care in Humble or the sister home that [removed] is opening in the Lakeshore subdivision just a little further down W.Lake Houston Parkway toward Summerwood. [removed] proclamations of loving and caring about the elderly are very obviously out-weighed by her love and caring of money. I seriously question her moral values and integrity.
