for a local A Place for Mom advisor

Allegheny Place is located less than three miles from the Allegheny River in Penn Hills Pennsylvania. We enjoy country living but are close enough to Pittsburgh for an afternoon trip into the city for restaurants, shopping and entertainment. We have four hospitals within six miles of our community as well as three churches in our neighborhood.

We strive to keep our residents active and healthy through engaging activities and plenty of opportunities for socialization:

  • Yoga classes
  • Knitting club
  • Craft room
  • Lounges
  • Beauty and barber salon
  • Delicious meals served in our restaurant style dining room

Our protected outdoor courtyard is a popular place during the spring and summer. Residents enjoy walking among the flowers, watching the squirrels scamper through the trees and just relaxing in the sun. Residents, visitors and staff alike enjoy our barbecues and social events in the courtyard.

Our comfortable apartments are perfect for either single or double occupancy. Apartments come equipped with kitchenette and microwave as well as built in safety features.

  • Our Experience

There's different levels of care. Make sure that your family member's level of care doesn't exceed their ability to provide it, that the needs fit their service level. They did have some staffing issues, but the staff were all very nice and competent. The food I tried was good quality and presented well. It didn't seem thrown together quickly - it looked like it took an appropriate level of skill from the people who prepared it. They also had a big calendar of activities. I would recommend the community to other families.

The first year, 2019, that my mother was at Allegheny Place I was very pleased. Now, 2 1/2 years later I am very unhappy and frustrated. During this time there have been 5 executive directors. No one stays long enough to make improvements. More caring and competent workers are needed. I am fortunate that I am able to visit my mother each day. It’s when I’m not there that I worry about her care, her need for oxygen and leg wraps for circulatory issues. For the past month or longer, there has not been a housekeeper. I clean my mother’s room. The care is lacking but the cost continues to increase. Because of my mother’s dementia, I hesitate to move her to another facility which may cause her to be more confused. At this time I would not recommend Allegheny Place.

  • I was very impressed with the tour. everything looked very clean, the apartment looked very roomy. It is a smaller facility , which I liked, and seemed very well staffed. It was a little more expensive than some of the other facilities.
