  • Amazing Caregivers- VERY POOR MANAGEMENT

My grandmother was a resident at Autumn Bay for just under a year. The caregivers were so sweet and so caring. You could tell they really cared about each and every resident there. They took the time to do her hair and paint her nails and do arts & crafts with her. Why I've given them a low rating is because of their terrible management. 2020 has been a crazy year with COVID-19. I understand the reasoning behind their strict visitation rules- at first. But when my grandmother was placed on hospice, arguing with their management to be allowed to see her was a constant. I was one of her two (activated) POAs. From the get-go, I never had good encounters with management there. I had to remind them what "Hospice" meant- yes I am an educated RN. I got notified of her decline and still was not allowed to see her, because I was "the second listed POA." My grandmother RAISED me. I had talked to their manager and has asked to speak with the director as well. I received a phone call from the director and the first words out of her mouth were, "I am just very frustrated about this. What isn't being understood about you not being able to see her?" The. First. Words. She was very rude. Fast-forward a few months and I had again received a call that she was actively dying. Her blood pressure was 80/40, her pulseox was 54%. Do you think I would have been able to see her THEN? The unfortunate answer was no. At this time, it was 3pm. I was told "you can come during normal business hours tomorrow after 9am." Even though she was actively dying and we all knew she wouldn't make it through the night. She passed away at 7am the next morning. I was not able to see my dying grandmother, the woman who raised me. What difference did it make if I went to see her at 5pm that evening to say my goodbyes or if it was 9am the next day "during business hours." The managers there have no compassion, no empathy. I thank the caregivers there from the bottom of my heart for all the wonderful care my grandmother received. But if I would have known about how terrible their management is, my grandmother would not have resided there.

  • A Facility that Cares

The staff are wonderful but my husband is having a hard time with adjusting to his medications. The staff are providing almost one on one care for him though. The facility is really nice, the location is great, and he has an excellent room. It is a one floor, small building on a quiet street in a lovely neighborhood with a wrap around back deck overlooking a river. It's really beautiful. The staff are so accommodating to the residents and they have residents at all levels of memory loss. The staff work really hard to meet their needs. They work directly with a primary doctor and a psychiatrist who actually visit the community. The staff are wonderful with communication and letting me know when the doctors visit my husband and keep my updated. My only suggestion would be for them to provide families with an activity and menu calendar.

  • I went to go visit my Grams today, I am beyond words how poorly she was treated and the way the staff talked about her while using profanity. How sad to the individuals that live there, I prayed the Lord watches over them all and the staff can find it in their hearts to be kind to all our loved ones that reside there.
