  • Tours for care for mom

my brother was able to tour this community. He was not happy due to to the odor. He found that other residents were not active and seemed not to have anything to keep them active and that is one thing that we really needed for our mom to stay alert and active. The food seemed to be appealing. The community was not a good choice for care here. Families might take a tour to consider the care that is received here.

  • Much Appreciated Care for a Very Challenging Resident

I placed my 86 year old legally blind and nearly deaf stepfather in this home based on the recommendation of a hospital social worker. We were fresh off of deplorable treatment at a well known memory care facility in Mesquite. Although he had severe dementia with psychosis and paranoia., he not only thrived at Avalon, he began to eat, gain weight and became fond of many of the staff. Although there were verbal and physical outbursts directed at the staff at times, these outbursts were handled with kindness, professionalism and a real acceptance that, unfortunately for some residents, this is the course of their disease. Any service we needed, we got, including a mobile dentist to have new dentures made and shoes hand measured and fit. Due to his vison and hearing loss, the staff made the time to spend one on one time with him. He was a resident for over 18 months until his death on Hospice and we experienced outstanding communication and care by the staff under the direction of a strong and capable manager. My only recommendation is to decrease the amount of furniture (over-sized primarily) in the living area. Seems to be a lot of unused seating and would be easier for the staff to navigate wheelchairs and walkers. Thanks for the opportunity to provide this review.
